iCLAW Grants

The team at iCLAW Culliney Foley is committed to the community that has supported their success and growth as a leading law practice. In addition to a practice policy that sees solicitors investing their personal time into community projects, boards and not-for-profit initiatives, each iCLAW practice commits a percentage of pre-tax earnings to community initiatives by way of the iCLAW grants board.

Testimonials

Owen Culliney and his wider team acted for Dr Organic prior to and during the recent sale of shares in that company to NBTY (as detailed here ). Owen continues to be involved with the New Zealand based interests of Dr Organic, but ought to be congratulated in particular on his work in supporting the UK based lawyers in finalising the New Zealand centric elements of the wider transaction; specifically, in drafting critical agreements within tight timeframes and liaising expertly with other parties, advisers and stakeholders.

The time saved in having two teams of lawyers on opposite sides of the globe was of huge value in a matter involving many elements and tight timeframes.

Fred Whitcomb, Dr Organic

It was a good move to switch to iCLAW.  At the time, our mother had passed away suddenly and left the family farm in the hands of myself and 3 siblings.  We could not agree on anything or progress things.  Sam and Shannon took a very fair and professional approach to managing the transition and took into consideration everyone’s situations and preferred outcomes.  iCLAW guided us all to a place that we could never have reached without them and in the end an amicable agreement was achieved.  iCLAW are a solid and sincere service and I would recommend them to anyone.

We have worked with Owen and his team for the past few years and have been impressed by his approach to the law. Owen has the expertise to handle significant drafting work, but is (equally) able to see the need for simple commercially focused advice and legal documents that deliver just that – which is particularly useful in our sales processes.

During my career as a Professor of Chemistry I have worked at the Victoria University of Wellington in the research, development and commercialisation of new products and chemical process technologies. In recent years this has focused on nanotechnology and nanofunctionalised natural materials to impart unique properties to them and provide new applications and business opportunities.

As part of this progression to commercialisation I have needed legal advice and counsel, which you have so willingly and expertly provided. I am grateful of the great of care you took to understand the legal issues and personalities at play, and also my ultimate goals and anxieties around the technologies, people involved and above all, my work and reputation as a Professor, research scientist and educator of young people. You have been a calming influence and I always felt as if I was in safe hands, could call you any time for reassurance and that your strategies for resolution were sound and focused on achieving my goals. This is indeed very much appreciated.

It has been an absolute pleasure to know and work with you and to receive you expert advice and counsel.

Culliney & Foley have provided and continue to provide the Du Val Group and its subsidiaries with outstanding general counsel. We considered the merits of bringing legal services in-house, yet have found that the advice offered in terms of our business operation and specific property transactions has been of such high quality that we have had no need. Owen and Aasha lead a tight team and offer a boutique service that we haven't found in any other firm, where we know they genuinely care about our business outcomes and put our needs first.

Today we are Auckland's largest suburban apartment developer and a $400m business and have absolute comfort that Culliney & Foley will continue to represent us and provide a personal level of service that we wouldn't find in any number of larger firms that would seek to do our work.

I am a director for Mende Biotech Limited, the company that extracts New Zealand’s next big nutraceutical export, Totarol. Owen has worked hard to assist us with the corporate and commercial elements of our business including documenting capital raising, supply agreements and advising on our responsibilities and rights with respect to our key stakeholders. He often attends to our needs after hours and over weekends to get the job done and while, like most lawyers, he has an intrinsic desire to document everything and try to tie up any foreseeable risks he is also willing to work within our requirements for simplicity and with an appreciation of the commercial and real life elements of business and financial relationships.

iCLAW were the first company to support the Waikato125 women's suffrage celebration by way of category sponsorship. But, as the event planning progressed, they became more than "just a sponsor" but a valued advisor to the overall project. Their financial support meant we were able to provide a beautiful High Tea celebration for 165 people, and their advice since the event has been invaluable. We are so pleased to have Aasha, Owen and the iCLAW team as part of our sponsor family.

Bresson and I want to give Olivia and the ICLAW team a huge thank you for helping us through the sale of the business. During the 48 hrs previous to settlement things become extremely stressful due to the involvement of a third party putting the settlement at risk.

Olivia and Sam were fantastic helping us on the spot and advising on best course of action to complete settlement as planned.

"Nickolas Sam is praised as "a very approachable and excellent resource for advice on the intricacies of Marshall Islands law." Based in Hong Kong, he is admired by another interviewee for his "dynamic and creative advice." He advises clients on the formation of Marshall Islands corporations, as well as acquisitions and contentious matters."

Simmi and Owen,

I just wanted to thank you both for your help through this. It has been quite a journey, and I have learned a great deal. Throughout the voyage it has always been a pleasure to work with the iCLAW team.
Thank you both! Onwards and upwards!
